Greetings and welcome to the next ACTION PACKED issue of Super Thumb! In this issue I shall be giving you my thoughts on the immortal Donkey Kong, the Ninja Turtles and even some SURPRISE legends. Oh my! So lets jump right in to the action.

Donkey Kong Country (SNES, 1994)

Donkey Kong Country is a fun game that spawned many more fun and some unfun games.  It was one of the first games that kept track of how much you had completed. It also had extra harder things you could do to get a higher percentage than all your friends. Which may or may not have lead to all those nifty unlockables games have nowadays. The game has fairly simple gameplay which is quite easy to get into and makes you want to play more.  It also appeals to a wide variety of fans because I know even my little sister would play.. and erase my near perfect games! OH THE HUMANITY.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (SNES, 1992)

This turtles game is an arcade style slash fest! You choose your turtle and then pummel all the nearby foot soldiers, mousers and the like until you die or run out of credits. It has a good number of levels and is very fun to play with a friend. It isn’t an incredibly long game but that lends itself well to its multiplayer atmosphere. This is probably one of the better turtle games, coming a long way from that confusing style they made the first one in..

Shadow Hearts (PS2, 2001)

Shadow Hearts weaves a strange but interesting story line. It is an RPG with some innovative gameplay techniques that I haven’t seen in many other games. Most of these revolve around this circle that requires you to do different things to complete attacks, magic or other activities needed to move the plot.  Other than that it plays like any other RPG. It has a bunch of cool characters.. and one really crappy one.  If you played it even for a little while I’m sure you know him, thankfully you never have to use him much and he doesn’t take anything away from the game.

Nolan Ryan’s Baseball (SNES, 1992)

This is one odd baseball game. It doesn’t have any true MLB licenses or MLBPA licenses so everyone and every team in the game is made up except for Nolan Ryan himself. Of course you won’t recognize his team. The teams dont even get names, just a single letter and different colors to tell them about. It has a few fun features as you can easily change the names of the players adding you and your friends into the game. That’s about the only bright spot in the game, however. Any other fun generated from this game was how we mocked the games catchers.. because they never move.. ever. A ball could be right next to them and you still need to make your pitcher run in and get it. The gameplay is pretty lame, pitching is pretty much reduced to hitting a button. Fielding is very confusing and hard to get adjusted too and since hitting is pretty easy the scores of these games tend to get pretty high

Legends of Wrestling II (PS2, 2002)

Ok this game had the hardest controls I’ve ever seen. Reading them in the instruction booklet they didn’t seem hard but as I got my ass handed to me time and time again by Mr. Sammartino I realized that I just didn’t get it. The game does have many cool aspects featuring many wrestling legends and a few outfits for each, reflecting different time periods of their careers.  However I just suck at it.. I was never even able to win a match. Truthfully I dont even remember slightly injuring an opponent.

Captain Eric’s Super Thumb Says… Thumbs Down!

Well there you have it. For the second month in a row the THUMB liked 3 and disliked 2.. I really ought to fix that. We can not be having any predictability here! I would like to personally thank Mr. Hulk Hogan and Mr. Nolan Ryan for making two of the lamest games I’ve played.. perhaps they aren’t so legendary after all. I would also like to accept everyone’s thanks for saving the world from the evils of shadow hearts, thank you, thank you, I know you love me. Tune in next month for a even MORE exciting issue of…
