Welcome to this EXTRA SPECIAL edition of THE THUMB! Since this is the extra special JANISH only a extra special version of the ‘Cola’s greatest feature of all time would do. SOOooo for this issue we will be featuring an unprecedented seven games! These aren’t just any games either, they were hand-selected by myself and GameCola’s lord and creator Paul Franzen as we battled it out in these seven games for uhh many many hours.. probably too many hours but OH WELL! Now onto the exciting breakdowns.

WWF No Mercy (N64)

Now you may have heard of this game; it’s regarded as the best wrestling game out there. Those are pretty strong words as (you may not know this) they actually still do make wrestling games, lots and lots of them. So the session of No Mercy went pretty painfully for me as Paul manhandled me over and over.. eww wait noo not like that! No Mercy’s Create-a-Wrestler mode is still one of the best, though not perfect as we tested it out trying to make that legendary drow Drizzt Do’Urden and well.. failed miserably. Still this game is very good and features one of the smoothest and easier to learn grappling systems out there.

Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey (N64)

I had never played this game before; I always thought it would suck pretty much like every hockey game I’ve ever played.. but WOW was I wrong! This has to be one of the most entertaining hockey games since Blades of Steel. It is not your typical hockey game and it is chock full of checks and other illegal maneuvers that true hockey games wouldn’t allow. This game is more in the NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, line of games where the defenses are non existent and the scoring is pumped up TO THE MAX. However this isn’t a bad thing because hockey with tons of scoring is very fun!

International Superstar Soccer (N64)

This is your typical soccer game, which isn’t usually a good sign. When we played we turned off a lot of the penalty options and had a real field day. I recall the Germany team we were facing only having about one fully healthy player at the end of the game and the scoring being something in the double digits to something.. very tiny. The game is pretty fun but its a bit hard to control your player as well as switch between enough other players and being able to stayed keyed on the ball. It’s an okay game but nothing great.

LEGO Racers (N64)

Most gimmicky racing games.. or racing games in general that aren’t the Mario variety, I find very boring. Diddy Kong really should never have stepped foot near a plane train or automobile.. or whatever as far as I’m concerned. However this game has surprisingly smooth controls. Not as smooth as Mario Kart however but they are still better than 90% of the racing games I’ve played. The game lets you choose your racer from different Lego man parts as well as create your own car.. but that was too time consuming so we just made cool guys and used barebones vehicles. The are not a lot of tracks to choose from.. perhaps some are unlockable but that is nothing to really worry about. We had fun playing!

Darius Twin (SNES)

Okay this game just sucks.. I dont even remember what its actual genre was. All I know was that I definitely broke any “amount of deaths in five seconds” record that ANYONE has ever reached in this game.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (SNES)

What can you say about this game.. greatest Turtle game ever! No matter how many times I play and beat it I just want to go at it again! Talk about your replay value! Oh and Leonardo is the greatest Ninja Turtle out there, don’t let any hillbilly tell you otherwise.

WWF Royal Rumble (SNES)

Sometimes games from your childhood really just need to stay back in your childhood. I played this game all the time at friends’ houses as a kid and I really really loved it. However playing it now its just seems sooo bad. It can’t do half the things that wrestling games do nowadays and just seems really really slow and boring. I can’t knock it too hard because during its heyday it was THE wrestling game to be playing!

Well this marathon of gaming taught us all at least one thing.. if it weren’t for Mr. Gardner, the GameCola Board of Directors might just be the worst collection of SKILLED video gamers this world has ever seen! Although I did add mightily to my legacy of being able to die more than anyone in any given game. Yes I know you’re jealous, but I am the best and you’ll never beat me! Well that’s all for this wonderful issue, be sure to read next month! You just know it keeps getter better after every read.
