Today, in 2002—when I was a junior in high school—I created the mailing list that would become the website we all know and love today.
It seems like only yesterday we were having after-school staff meetings in the cafeteria, making up pretend “Top 10” lists when readers didn’t submit any, discussing the possibility of making GameCola staff jerseys at a local t-shirt print shop, brainstorming new column and contest ideas, figuring out exactly what to call our year-end awards, deciding not to include a “Best Xbox Game” category because we all hated Xbox, telling Kevin Leacock to stop eavesdropping on our meetings because he wasn’t, at the time, an official member of our staff, getting yelled at by administrators for meeting in the cafeteria without being an official school club, and later taking our first official staff pictures at my then-girlfriend’s house.
Actually, no. It seems like that was a long-ass time ago.
