Recently, a lot of old series have restarted after a 10+ year break. Star Wars. Indiana Jones. Alvin and the Chipmunks. Even The A-Team, which had a successful opera run in summer 2008.  The trend of bringing back old series is not limited to movies and TV; even in the videogame world, we’ve seen long-dead franchises come back to life with games like A Boy and His Blob, Mega Man 97 and Halo: Reach.

Last summer, Sony and Atari gave us Ghostbusters: The Video Game, which was so wildly successful that even I heard about it. The producers are so happy with their sales numbers that they’re trying to duplicate Ghostbusters‘ success with a new videogame/movie: Back to the Future 4.

The plot of the game is that Marty McFly has to go forward in time to December 7th, 2012, in order to prevent the world from ending. You see, evil villain Biff Tannen is planning on unleashing an untold horror upon humanity: Indiana Jones 5.

“The film was all about Shia!” Doc Brown cries. “There’s a twenty-minute sequence of him going through a play pen at McDonald’s! Then he does the same thing in a play pen at Burger King!”

But when Marty and Doc arrive at the future, Biff steals the time machine again, because Doc might be smart enough to build a time machine, but he’s not smart enough to lock his car doors. Now Old Biff, Younger Biff, and Awkward Teen Years Biff are running wild in the timelines, and it’s up to our heroes to stop them.

Once it becomes a hovercar, the time machine is officially a fly ride. I'm sorry, I mean, McFly ride.

The game is primarily an adventure game, but there are a few unique portions, like the part where you play “Johnny B. Goode” on a Guitar Hero guitar (sold separately). It was recently confirmed that you will be able to play as both Doc and Marty in this game, and word on the street is that the game will be about six hours long. Based off the gameplay footage we’ve seen so far, we can easily confirm that this is the best Back to the Future game since Super Back to the Future, Part II.

Unfortunately, Back to the Future 4 is not going to be available on all platforms. In fact, it will be exclusive to the Xbox 360. That’s because the Xbox is the only system with the 1.21 gigabytes needed to run the game smoothly.

Expect this game to be released—when else?—in the future.

Edit: Here’s the actual trailer for the real upcoming adventure game, Back to the Future: The Game—which is, ostensibly, Back to the Future 4. Enjoy!

  1. I am a fan of the Back to the Future Trilogy and I would love to see a
Part 4 to be done. I’m sure that they can come up with a story line. not hard to do. Question is would christopher Lloyd reprise his role?

  2. Hopefully this game won’t be a disappointment like Ghostbusters was I mean I liked it but eh but man 6 hours of gameplay is not long at all should make it longer really.. Don’t think I am going to buy it honestly if its only 6 hours to short… RENTAL TIME FOR ME!!!!
