dreamdropThis just made my day.

Tetsuya Nomura is the Director of the next Kingdom Hearts game, Kingdom Hearts: Dream Droop Dropkick for the 3DS. In an interview with Famitsu (via SQEX*GAL), he talks a bit about the process of getting approval on the game’s story from the big D. QUOTE:

“It’s fairly complicated. Right now I’m telling Disney about the scenarios, but it’s hard for them to understand it all at once.”

Yes, that’s right. The story in Kingdom Hearts is now officially so convoluted that not even the company that’s licensing it understands it anymore. He also said “I decided to develop the story in a way that fans could imagine on their own the remaining story how they like,” which I believe means “I decided not really to write any coherent story.”

You can also learn all kinds of interesting things from the full interview, like…how great Roxas is! What the most popular Kingdom Hearts level is! And—I’m serious—what Tetsuya Nomura’s favorite keyblade is. As for me, I’m just going to spend the rest of the day being happy that I’m not the only one who doesn’t get the games anymore. Mickey himself is on board with me.

  1. Kingdom Hearts isn’t that difficult. See, Sora’s Nobody is Roxas, but he also had a female counterpart named Xion. Xion hung out with Roxas and Axel (who is not Sora), and then she died at Roxas’ hands at the end of the DS’ “358/2 Days”. In Birth By Sleep, Sora makes an appearance in masked form, and as an adult, despite it chronologically taking place before Kingdom Hearts, and Kingdom Hearts 2, in which Roxas and Sora finally cross paths – Roxas, incidentally, bearing a strong resemblance to Venitas from Birth By Sleep, who may or may not be related to him in some way. Additionally, Chain of Memories saw Sora battle to retrieve his own mind as he and his friend Riku faced the darkness of Ansem, who is not the original Ansem – another being, Xemnas, MAY be. But then, there is also DiZ, who IS the original Ansem the Wise, but so might Xemnas b- OK, it’s complete bullshit, but I still love the games to bits. 🙂

  2. I can barely even read the titles anymore.

Something about Divine Dreamy Dipshits and the square root of Pi multiplied by the sun.

But, I’m not going to rant. I want to, but I’m not going to.

  3. Hmm. Seems like the game could benefit from some good old viewings of the classic Disney movies. Too much imagination, and not enough devotion to history, I tell you!

    Good post, Franzen.
