About

There’s a lot of comedy in videogames. (Eye-popping, right? Stay with me here; it gets interesting in the next sentence.) I’m not just talking about games like Monkey IslandPsychonauts, or Earthbound; they’re comedic, but there’s more to the topic of “videogame humor” than just humorous videogames.

Videogame fans, for example. They—or at least, the ones that talk—are hilarious. Especially when they have intense, name-calling comment warsabout whether the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3 has better bitmapping. (True fact: Nobody actually knows what “bitmapping” is.) Then there’s videogame journalists, and how seriously they tend to take themselves and their hobby. There’s also videogame ads, and how amazing they can be; really bad videogames, and the things that make them really bad; every cosplayer ever; and more. In short, there’s hilarity to be found in nearly every aspect of the videogame industry, if you’re not too busy bellyaching about how some reviewer dared to give Grand Theft Auto VII: This Time, There are Bigger Guns a mere 9.5 out of 10.

GameCola is a site devoted to observing videogames through joke-tinted glasses. We feel that most videogame coverage on the Internets is far too serious business about something that’s supposed to be entertainment—something that we’re supposed to be doing for fun—and we try to balance that out by having as much fun as we can with our writing, podcasting, drawing, and video…ing. We update frequently, we’re unbiased, and many of us have excellent beards, so tell your friends.
