mm legendsAhhh…the wonderful universe of Mega Man. With something like 7 original video games, a few Game Boy games, a soccer game, and now the second 3D action game, Mega Man is hardly a new face among gamers. MML2 is Capcoms second installment of the mildly successful Mega Man 3D series, Mega Man Legends. Overall, Legends 2 is a big step up from its forerunner, both graphically and gameplay-wise.

To quote my buddy Jimbo, “It feels and looks like an anime.” Indeed it does, Chansk. Complete with bad voice acting and confusing story lines. The story starts out as you once again learn of the Mother Lode, the infamous goal of all Diggers, which is loosely equivalent to an explorer/adventurer. And guess whos the best digging team around…thats right, Mega Man and his spotter Roll. Mega Man kicks ass down in the caves while Roll uses her l33t computer setup to navigate for him. But anyway, everyones after this Mother Lode. So, not unlike most action/adventure games, youre basically given the task of finding 4 keys each guarded by a boss (and no, you dont get their ability). Of course, after finding these 4 keys you go on to battle the boss, but not before re-battling all the other bosses in true Mega Man fashion.

The game claims to have RPG elements, which is not a lie. Mega Mans buster cannon is very customizable, with attributes such as power, range, rapid, and energy. Another cool feature is the secondary weapon. Rolls mechanical skillz allow her to create some pretty dope weaponry to attach to Mega Mans other arm, weaponry like cannons, machine guns, lasers, and even a light saber.

Control is pretty basic, one analog to move and strafe, the other to turn. I may be alone in saying that the graphics are above average. Of course, you dont see an incredible amount of detail, but then again, do you ever in Mega Man games? Cartoony is the name of the game. Mega Man Legends 2 is a solid, fun action game. While it holds its own in the genre, it is definitely directed towards Mega Man fans. If thats you, go check this game out. If not, its certainly worth a rental.
