Dan Rodman’s Top Ten Favorite Games

10.  Play Action Football (GBO): I’m not really sure why I put this here.  Yeah, in fact, this game is downright horrendous.  Well, I guess the music wasn’t all that bad.

9.  Tetris (GBO): How could anyone leave this off their list?

8.  Assorted Old Games (MISC): Pepper 2, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Gauntlet, and especially Mappy, all wanted to be in this list, and how could I turn them down?

7. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (SG): Any person who does not like this game should not be permitted to procreate.

chaos6. General Chaos (SG): This is probably the most unrealistic combat simulator ever made for Genesis.  But, as with many other games on this list, it was perfect for eating up time with a grade-school friend, especially when my mother got into endless conversations with that friend’s mother when she came to take me home.  Overall, though, ridiculous fun.

5. Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins (GBO): Heh heh heh.  Wasn’t it fun to beat Wario?  Speaking of which, could anyone spend less time on an arch-villain?  All Nintendo did was turn the M in Mario upside down and dress the guy in yellow and purple instead of blue and red.  Talk about cheap development.

4. Kirby’s Dreamland (GBO): Whoever invented this pink air-sucking bubble should be hugged mercilessly.  Kirby was an endless source of fun for my Game Boy years.  I believe that I beat this game a total of fifteen times, usually in one sitting.  It made me just chipper to return all the food to the starving people at the end.

3. Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (PS2): Wow.  This game has great graphics, great gameplay, just hard enough to keep you trying.  Definitely one of the most inventive games ever.

2. Super Smash Brothers (N64): What could be better than beating up your friends without actually beating them up?  I must admit I played it rather cheaply, doing the same basic moves over and over again as Samus, as several friends will express their displeasure.  Regardless of this, however, this game is great.  It is definitely one of the most fun games ever created.

1. Star Control (SG): Who’s for bad space-combat simulations?  While this game had awful, 2D-from-above graphics, horrendous sound, and quasi-difficult controls, it was another of the most fun games I’ve ever played, although I’ve only played the melee mode.  Simply reveling in its awfulness and having my fleet destroyed by my brother time after time in his Columbia, Pennsylvania apartment couldn’t have been better.
