Many other magazines, online or paper, boast advice columns like this one.  However, what other magazines can promise a video-game-related-dilemma every single month?  None, I tell you.  Without further ado, GameCola is proud to present Jenna Ogilvie with “Advice for the Sensitive Gamer”.

Dear Jenna,

I’ve been going through a difficult time in my life.  To help me through this time I’ve been playing Final Fantasy X-2 constantly.  Things in my life recently hit an all time low.  At the same time I’ve noticed that i keep dying while playing the game, even when just trying to level up.  Could it be that my mood is affecting my gameplay?

Dear Stuck (how awkward does that sound…),

Actually, what you’re experiencing is a combination of both the extremely advanced gameplay of the Final Fantasy series, and what is more commonly known as “you’re sad, you’re bad” syndrome.

Final Fantasy, as gamers well know, is a series that’s been around since early in gaming history.  It remains a fairly popular game, and henceforth, the creators of the game must continue to innovate the game to keep their admirers content with each subsequent FF that is released.  Unbeknownst to many players of Final Fantasy X-2, the programmers included an easter egg that defies all computer/human interaction.  The game can actually sense what you’re feeling, seeing, and saying.  Which makes a lot of sense, when you think about it.  Why screaming at the game and throwing the controller actually makes things worse, rather than better.  However, I believe that this is part of what you are experiencing with your video game problems.

The other half of this issue is the well known syndrome of “you’re sad, you’re bad”.  Many gamers use their video games as narcotics of a sort, catalysts to help them forget whatever evils are occurring in their lives at the time.  However, as many other will, I’m sure, back me up… every time you play when you’re sad or depressed, your game skills and proficiencies go quickly down the toilet.  What you’re experiencing is a mix of the two.  My advice is to take three ammoxicillin, wash it down with some vodka, and call me in the morning.

    Love, Jenna
