Here we go again with another wildly entertaining installment of the thumbs that are SUPER. So what treats has this month given us, you ask? Well, it’s been a slow boring section of time on the videogame front. But FEAR NOT! For, as always, I have been able to conjure up some thrilling dialogue on five games worthy of the practically immortal SUPER THUMB spotlight!

Bomberman Jetters (GCN)

So let’s be honest: Bomberman games are not the greatest looking games out there. They have their own style, and it works for the games. Now with this game, though, they must have thought that they could be doing better in that department. Unfortunately BETTER to whoever was in charge over in Bomberman land is just LAMER. Oooh the pain your eyes will cause you when looking at the new stick-like Bomberman trot around these bland levels! So we have an ugly Bomberman and levels that look so similar you get lost in their generalness. SWEET DEAL!

The gameplay is, well…it’s Bomberman. Nothing really changes. You make bombs and then use bombs. It’s not a very fast-paced style of gameplay and really isn’t all that interesting. They also changed around the multiplayer modes, giving you even less space and room to maneuver around from imminent destruction. So there is nothing all that inviting about this game. It doesn’t bring you anything ENTERTAINING that any other title in the series can give you, and it’s just blah looking.

Trivial Pursuit: Unhinged (PS2)

TRIVIA! Eveeerrrybooody loves trivia! I, just for the life of me, cannot see why this isn’t the biggest draw for the PlayStation since…whatever the last Final Fantasy game is! OK well yes, that’s a lie; trivia isn’t for everybody, especially not in videogame form. It’s a lot simpler to just read off some cards.

The game itself is what you would expect: Trivia Pursuit on your console! However, the variety of questions seems to be a lot more limited as by my SECOND play I was already getting repeats. That’s just annoying! So single player mode isn’t all that fun. The fun gets kicked up a notch in multiplayer mode! But not all that much really. You can take this game online too! WOW! However, it’s really not a simple set up to get it on, and, oh yeah, no one else plays this trash.

There really isn’t any reason to purchase this game, even if you are desperate for some multiplayer action of any sort. Its fun!…for an hour or so.

God of War (PS2)

Now coming into this game, I had heard numerous very good things about it. How exciting, fun, and innovative it was! FOR SHAME IN YOU ALL; how could no one have warned me about the irritating platforming that plagues this game from start to finish!? OK it’s not really that bad—there is a lot of fun in between the deathforming. The combat is fast-paced and exciting with a variety of combos to do . Later you even find another spiffy weapon to carve up your foes with! The game also features some MAJIIKS that are also pretty fun and usually have very helpful uses at some points.

Another thing God of War has is some very cool puzzles along the way. Nothing about it is all that innovative, though. It’s fun, but it’s nothing you haven’t seen before. As for the platforming…it really got to me! Going from bashing the life out of a swarm of skeletons to tip-toeing across a beam and missing that cliff ledge time and time again just is not my cup of tea. The game is also very short and probably won’t take you all that long to get through. The story is pretty cool, however, and does have a very epic feel as it envelops you into its Greek mythology. It is probably better to rent than buy.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2)

GTA is a rather infamous and popular series, but I have a confession to make…I have never actually completed any missions in them. OR well I think I did the first mission once; good times. Now that isn’t really a bad thing, because while the missions are kind of hard and irritating, I never had much incentive to even try them. There are so many other fun things to do in the game I usually forget it has a purpose. So even though every version seems exactly the same to me, I still have a lot of fun with them. As do most people!

It’s a game you can just turn on a play for a bit and not have to really pay attention to anything—it is a very fun and effective waster of time. So yeah, even when you aren’t really doing what you are supposed to it STILL is a fun game. The rest of it can’t be all that bad, can it?

Katamari Damacy (PS2)

Oh look! It’s that game where you roll a ball around and make it bigger. Awesome. Every child has aspirations to create the world’s largest rubber band ball! Or something similar. Yes they do; DO NOT DOUBT ME. So this game is just like that, just in videogame form.

Yeah OK, rolling a ball around a vast world is real fun, but what ELSE is there! How can people not find this monotonous! I just do not really see the appeal here, and I really can’t see how there are sequels! If you like the game that’s one thing, but after going though level after level of the same thing with new little objects, how much more can you want! Two ENTIRE (OK its three now, isn’t it…) games dedicated to rolling balls across the globe! ANYTHING really is possible!

For me, the game gets old. Fast. Some people enjoy it, and if you like to see things grow right before you eyes, this should keep your interest…for a little while, at least. It is a different game, and it is always nice to try something new; but Katamari will forever confuse me with its popularity.

Well folks! THAT is IT. The thumbs have come to another disappointing close. Disappointing in the sense that you will have to wait another ENTIRE month just to read some of its spiffy greatness. But dems the breaks! The THUMBS will be back, and they WILL be better than ever. What awaits in the next issue? That’s something that not even I know! So you KNOW it is going to be magical. Come back and see!
