Earn PS3 Trophies for Watching TV?

trophyIf you’re like me, you’ve often wondered: What’s the point of watching TV anymore? In fact, what’s the point of doing anything, anymore, if it doesn’t boost my gamerscore? If what I’m doing doesn’t give me pretend points to add to my fake score that makes me a prince in Crazy Town, then I am wasting my time.

You’ll be happy to know, then, that this awful slash wonderful degree of OCD that MicroSony has foisted upon our gaming habits may, in fact, soon be foisted upon our TV-watching habits, as well. Via Joystiq, a DVR service for Japanese PS3s called “Torne” may soon be offering viewers a chance to earn Trophies just by watching TV shows. They specifically cite that you could earn a Trophy for watching “final episodes from a lot of TV series,” and I, for one, can’t wait to read message board posts from lonely dorks who purchase every Trophy-enabled show there is and have them constantly running on their PS3s, whether they’re actually watching them or not. Man, what a bunch of losers!

…I’m not kidding anyone, am I? Of course I’d be one of those losers. Especially if they did this on PS3, because my PS3 gamerscore is embarrassingly low. I haven’t even earned a single Plat yet.

In any case, there’s no indication whatsoever that this will actually come to the U.S., or that it’s actually even definitely going to come to Japan…but we can still dream of a future where, one day, watching TV can be “productive.”

  1. I was thinking that they could do those for Netflix Instant Watch or BD movies. I definitely deserve a silver for watching all 5 episodes on the Super Mario Brothers Super Show DVD.
