For fans of the snarky version of Indiana Jones, the Uncharted movie has been a shining beacon of happiness and gumdrops to come. I’m here, as always, to crush your dreams and feed on your sadness. Your delicious, delicious sadness.
Marky Mark, the man who was involved in such artistic masterpieces as The Happening and “Good Vibrations,” is set to be cast as Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie, with David O. Russel helming the project.
“David has started writing,” Mark Wahlberg said in an interview. “[David] is one of the best writer/directors I’ve ever worked with. The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.”
But wait! There’s more! We might be able to watch Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci’s careers circle the drain, too! When asked about the rumors that the veteran actors would be in the Uncharted movie, Wahlberg responded: “That’s who he’s writing the parts for. I talked to Joe Pesci and I know David’s people have contacted [Robert De Niro].”
If De Niro and Pesci were cast, they would play Nathan’s father and uncle, respectively. “But wait,” you say, “Nathan’s father and uncle weren’t in the Uncharted games!” Well…that’s a good point, actually; why are they adding in two characters that can essentially do the same thing? Wasn’t Sully from the game supposed to be the father figure, anyway?
While it’s not a good start, I’d say this movie’s got a chance, mostly because it’s already written like a dumb summer action movie. And it is being written by the guy responsible for giving Mark Wahlberg a career, so it might not suck.
Tell you what, Mark. You give us a good performance with Nathan Drake, and I’ll promise to forget about Max Payne. Deal? Deal.
