Most people have mentors—someone to help guide you through the thickets in life and give you something to aspire to. Most people’s life guides are actual human beings, but you’re on GameCola.net, where we look up to pixelated heroes. Just who are GameCola’s guide’s in life? GameCola fan “No Lynch” asked us that very question. Here are our answers.

Honestly, a video game character that best acts my guide in life is Neptune from Hyperdimension Neptunia. She is the CPU (Leader) of the nation Planeptune. Regardless of this responsibility, she tends to slack off more and have fun. But she knows how to get things done when she really needs to. I know for a fact that I don’t let games and fun prevent me from work, but Neptune is a wonderful reminder to have fun in life, even at the cost of work sometimes

dian mia maya

I honestly can’t pick between two, so I’m putting them together.

As some of you may know, Maya Fey is me in spirit (not my spirit medium). In social situations, Maya is my guide. She’s so witty and outgoing, it’s hard not to love her. Maya brings light and humor into every situation, which is something that I would love to do. I’m pretty shy and quiet when first meeting people, but once you get to know me, my craziness could give Maya a run for her money. She’s taught me so much already, like the critical difference between ladders and stepladders. Remember kids, don’t judge things based on narrow-minded cultural assumptions.

In my school and work life, I turn to another guide: Mia Fey. In case you didn’t know, my ultimate goal is to go to law school and become a criminal prosecutor myself. Mia Fey is one of my favorite attorneys in the series, even though she’s only around for three cases. In the original Ace Attorney, she was the one who knew what to do in the first case, which made an impression on me back when I first played the game. She was so calm, cool, and collected. Seeing her first few trials in Trials and Tribulations showed her development as an attorney, which I’m hoping is what will happen to me after I become an attorney. Mia is so dedicated to the truth, so she is my guide in school and work situations. She reminds me to keep smiling, no matter how hard it gets.

nathaniel cranky kong

I have long acknowledged that I am an old man at heart, as you may have guessed from all those times I told you to get off my front lawn, you darn kids. If I had a guide in life—the Kaepora Gaebora to my Link; the Alia to my Mega Man X; the Midna to my Link; the…uh…Navi to my Link—it would probably be Cranky Kong from the Donkey Kong Country series. He’s sarcastic, full of valuable knowledge, talks a whole lot more than he needs to, complains about everything, and nobody ever listens to him. I’d say he’s a perfect fit for the little angel-sized rocking chair on my shoulder.

Mine would be Ezio Auditore da Firenze; he’s pragmatic, clever, and even though he became the top figure of the Assassin’s guild, he never passes down the opportunity to do things himself. Also, I like the guidance from someone who can still do some amazing s**t no matter how old he seems to get.

The Red turtle is the cream of the crop. While his green peers blindly walk off cliffs with hasty abandon, the red turtle has adapted. He has increased his intelligence to the point where he turns around and walks the other way, seeking adventure. He still has a lot to do to grow. Maybe someday he’ll be able to jump, talk, or use simple machines. He’s made a lot of progress, but there’s still always something to strive for out there.
