Nazeka-Amerika-no-NyuuyookuGameCola.net: Gaming Outside the Mainstream is known for asking the hard-hitting questions, and the GameCola Podcast is no exception. On this month’s edition, we ask the question on everyone’s mind: Do they have tacos in Britain? Join Alex Jedraszczak, Matt Jonas, and Joseph Martin as they answer this question and many others, including but not limited to:

  • Why is videogame music a course in college?
  • Why is Gandhi so bloodthirsty?
  • How much time has Jeddy wasted on poorly tagged GameCola articles?
  • McDonald’s had Sonic the Hedgehog videogames in their Happy Meals?!
  • Why does Japan love Donaldosan?
  • Why didn’t I think of recording Mario Paint movies to VHS?!
  • Why did developers always try to cram popular games from other systems onto the Game Boy?!
  • Why did developers switch from A is Select, B is Cancel to A is Cancel, B is Select?!
  • What’s your favorite Cooking Mama game?
  • What cool weather systems have you seen in games?
  • What was your first console?
  • What’s the secret to the longevity of the original Game Boy?
  • What do you do when you run out of classic games to play?
  • What’s the worst game that’s part of a generally good series?
  • How is Ragnarok Online still around after almost 15 years???

Look at all of those questions! And, a few of them even actually have answers.

    1. With regards to Ghandi nuking things(Though he really wasn’t a good person IRL either.)

  1. This is an excellent podcast covering a wide variety of topics! (Arguably this has enough content for two podcasts.)

I assume Britain has tapas, so tacos are redundant?

I feel for Jeddy in regard to article tagging…

Regarding Game Boy games, bear in mind that mobile gaming wasn’t what it is today. I wonder how without an emulator developers could have tested their games.

Regarding the select/cancel buttons, I agree, to this today this still confuses me!

That’s quite amusing to hear how rain was part of a character’s sprite!

I suppose Game Boy Color was so long-lived because of Pokemon and because consumers didn’t care strongly about upgrading to more powerful systems. Even in recent years consumers weren’t thrilled about the 3DS/2DS, if I remember correctly.

As for “worst game of a good series”, how did nobody suggest PW:T&T? Is it actually a good game?

    1. We didn’t have anyone on the podcast who really played Phoenix Wright! Maybe we could have split the podcast into two parts if we had Diana on this one…! It was just barely too short for me to want to, since we’d have gotten two podcasts under an hour each. Maybe that’s not so bad, though…

  2. Unfortunately, it was X5 that was supposed to be the last one in the series, not X4. Which helps explain why X6 has the story that it does, but doesn’t excuse X5 from what I can only hope is poor localization, to say nothing of the gameplay.
