Gaming Anomalies: Luigi Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing

Sometimes, the best strategy is to do nothing.

On October 11th, 2009, YouTube user KlydeStorm uploaded the video “Mario Party 2: Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing”. It’s…exactly what it sounds like.

The video itself is entertaining and follows through with its title. It also caught on enough to receive over 6 million views! Well, apparently it was interesting enough to get a sequel. And then another one. And then another one…

Just in case you’ve wanted to watch Luigi winning at everything for over an hour across the span of 11 different games.

This raises so many questions. Why is Luigi specifically who can pull so many victories through idle play? How long will he be able to keep putting out these results? How does he do it IN A FIGHTING GAME?

Even racing games aren’t safe from Luigi’s ability to not perform in any capacity.

At least in the Mario Party games, each character is the same in terms of stats and collision—so you could argue that any character could theoretically achieve victories in the same way (that is, by not performing any actions throughout the minigame). But in the case of Smash and Mario Kart, each character is different. Maybe Luigi is just better-tailored to the gameplay style of not playing the game. Or is it some kind of a crazy coincidence?
