Featured Game Soundtrack: Deponia

For talking about how good the soundtrack is, Anna sure says trash a lot in this one...

Deponia is a game based around trash. The planet is trash, the main character is trash, and even the music invokes the image of trash. That doesn’t mean the music of the original game is bad. In fact, I’d place it in my top ten game soundtracks, along with music from the proceeding games.

This first song sets a pretty good tone for who you’re playing as. A dude stuck on a disgusting trash planet who’s set on getting as far away as he can. It’s a good tone to set for the game. There are several more interludes like this throughout.

This is a track you’ll be hearing a lot of in this first area. The name of the track is “Junk” and I honestly have no idea how much harder you’d have to hit that nail on the head.

I really love this song, because it uses the beat and some other sounds from Junk and only ever loses that beat once or twice. It’s like being in a dream, but not fully asleep. You’re still on Deponia, not Elysium. You’re still stuck in a pile of trash.

The end of the game has the best music in my opinion. It does a great job of boosting the settings and situations. You’ve agreed to meet someone to return his girlfriend in an abandoned ascension station. After all of the traveling you’ve done and with your reward of leaving Deponia SO CLOSE, everything falls apart. The music captures a lot of feeling from each part of the end so well.

Each of the Deponia games has a somewhat unique sound, but it all ties back into trash. The first game did a great job of marrying the sound with the setting of Deponia, and they continued this with each of the other games.

Anna Bryniarski is a pretty uninteresting person with an interesting last name. She also has the best self esteem ever, right next to that casserole that's been in the fridge for weeks wondering why no one's eaten it. She's also definitely a Disney princess and GameCola's social media trash queen.
