Honestly, what is the ESRB thinking with the Rampage series? With all the games out there where you kill people and decapitate them, they lose sight of just what goes on in Rampage.
For those unfamiliar with the series, you play the roll of one of several gigantic mutated monsters that destroy every building, smash every vehicle and eat every person in sight. You “totally destroy” cities around the globe, never discriminating against culture.
It’s not just the ESRB; somehow, Rampage has been able to stay under the radar of soccer moms around the globe and all those other anti-violence advocacy groups. What gives? I mean, fuck, you go around wrecking EVERYTHING in sight. If that doesn’t encourage anarchy, destruction, violence and cannibalism, I don’t know what does.
At least with other violent games like Grand Theft Auto, there’s a story to the game, thus your main character generally has a reason for killing people (although it’s generally because he “don’t give a fuck”). But in Rampage, there is an extremely pitiful story. You are a human that became a monster who is bent on revenge and aims to destroy every major metropolitan area. E for Everyone my ass!
