Welcome to another thrilling edition of the THUMBS, where your satisfaction is not only guaranteed, it is mandatory!

This month we adventure into uncharted Super Thumbs waters as I bring you some PSP (?!?) games.  OK, I’m not really 100% sure they are uncharted waters, but I would be willing to wager a pretty penny that no other person on Earth has ever reviewed a PSP game. SO! Onward to the bountiful harvest of fun that THE THUMBS bestows upon the world each month.

Untold Legends : Warriors Code (PSP)

This is the sequel to another Untold Legends game that was also on the PSP.  It is a pretty basic action-RPGish game in the mold of other hack-and-slashers like Diablo.  It is a pretty entertaining installment of the genre and is significantly better than anything the consoles have to offer.

The game has some respectable, if not spectacular, graphics that fit a handheld system. They are a bit more cartoonish than the graphics of other fantasy games, but that really is a good thing because the same bland elf-and-elf really becomes an eyesore.

So the game pretty much features you bashing your way past enemy after enemy through a storyline very much like what you have seen before.  The game isn’t anything groundbreaking, but it defnitely is fun and will satisfy anyone’s baddie-smashing bloodlust.

Michael Jackson Moonwalker (SG)

So if you were ever sitting around and pondering what could be the worst possible ever game that was ever created, you may have thought of this one! YES! It IS that bad.  The point of the game is to save small children and fend off the bad guys with the glitter that flies out of your shoes. WOOOO HOOOO!  It is very creepy and will make you feel dirty within five minutes of turning it on.

It is also very very monotonous.  Just dredging through the levels is really a chore, as you must scour every inch of the levels, sometimes even multiple times, to find all these kids. I really can’t see how any amount of fun could have ever come from this thing.  Even the great musical stylings of Alien Ant Farm and Weird Al can’t save it.

Monster Hunter Freedom (PSP)

This is an upgrade to the PS2 version of the game.  It offers everything the console version supplied but with a lot of extras added in. Everything is a lot cheaper and easier to get ahold of, so you don’t have to spend weeks on end gathering the materials for that l33t sword you had your eyes on. The graphics are also bettered suited for the PSP because, well, it really wasn’t all that pretty to begin with, and bigger screens just made it look really bad.

The game features you as a hunter traveling around different maps to make your armor, weapons and other supplies to take on pigs, dinosaurs…very large dragons…you know, simple things like that!  Where the game really shines is in its multiplayer modes as well; there is not much more fun than you and a friend taking down dinos the size of Rhode Island!

Battle for Wesnoth (PC)

This is a free game that anyone can download off the good ol’ Internet at http://www.wesnoth.org/.  The graphics may seem pretty primitive, but they don’t really take away from the gameplay as they work in their own way and add a different feel to the game. Plus, you can edit them yourself and share them with others, creating even more scenarios and therefore more funness.   Yes, it is a game that just keeps on giving.

It is a turn-based strategy game where the focus lies more on combat that resources.  Which is a welcome change, because I’m not all that interested in spending my entire afternoon managing a logging camp.  The game is pretty fun and definitely worth a look at for anyone that enjoys some strategic battlin’!

Lego Star Wars 2 (GC)

Wookies. Flying arms. Darth Vader.

Seriously though Wookies. Flying arms. Darth Vader. This game has them.

This game’s good. How many other games let you strangle Leia with the force AND push R2-D2 off a cliff!! NONE! Not even the first one…well maybe the first one but SCREW that game it had JarJar Binks, and no one wants to be associated with him.  The game is simple but it is also tons of fun for all ages!
