This is really uncool, for four reasons:

1) EGM was the best/only readable print videogame magazine out there. (Seriously, would anyone read Game Informer if it didn’t come free with a GameStop membership card? And GamePro lost my interest as soon as I saw that their articles were all written by people with names like “Luscious Larry.”)

2) I’m a current subscriber.

3) EGM is one of the big reasons I got into videogame writing in the first place. For a time, one of my life’s goals was to become a writer/editor for it (though I’m not sure if that’s still my goal or not). One of the reasons I started GameCola was to build some experience and a clip file that I could bring to an interview with the publication to show them I had some idea what I was doing.

And, one of the reasons I ended up becoming a professional editor is because I’ve enjoyed my experience with GameCola so much, which means that can be partially attributed to EGM, too.

Besides inspiring GameCola’s inception, EGM also inspired our current ratings system and our emphasis on humor. I don’t have any transition between that thought and the prior paragraph, but I wanted to throw that out there, too.

4) Meteo’s probably never going to get his free game now.
