Phoenix Wright is such a constant topic around GameCola—how has it gone so long without being featured for its soundtrack?
There’s so much to say about the original Ace Attorney as a game. Beyond just the unique concept and great gameplay, there’s a feel to the game. There’s an atmosphere that pulls you in. The way the characters interact, the way the cases play out, and the immersive style of play that makes you want to know who the culprit is.
All of this is invisibly tied together with a great soundtrack.
Even if you haven’t played the game, if you grew up with gaming in the early 2000s, you’re probably familiar with at least the pursuit and cornered themes—but there’s so much more variety to the Phoenix Wright soundtrack than that. I’m going to try to focus on a few of my personal favorite tracks that I like to listen to while I’m working.
Like the lobby theme above, there’s just something that says “all right, let’s get down to business”. Just having a nice day? Maybe try Maya’s theme instead. Having a bit of a tough time and need to do some thinking? Here, try Gumshoe’s theme:
And the interesting thing for me personal is that I’d actually been enjoying the music for years before ever playing the game myself. I’d actually never cared much for Gumshoe’s theme before playing, but it really helped complete the mood during investigation in Turnabout Goodbyes, tying together the dreary winter scenery by the lake and the feeling of desperation about the…uh, the case. The things that happen in the case. No spoilers!
But really, there’s such a great range, and playing the game only made me appreciate the soundtrack more with the way it tied together the emotions and events.
I’ll leave with on a victorious note with the Steel Samurai’s theme song, but don’t think you have to stop there—there’s the full playlist you can listen to right over here. There’s bound to be something you’ll like!
10/10 WOULD RECOMMEND.
Ace Attorney? Never heard of it!
… Oh wait, is that the game Turnabout Musical created a musical about?
