While River City Ransom is regularly a topic around GameCola, this news about the original Kunio-kun series is something else. The series has been kept alive on Wii and DS systems in Japan by developer Arc System Works, but their latest announcement is taking things in a slightly different direction. With Nekketsu Mahou Monogatari, or “Hot-Blooded Magic Story“, Kunio-kun looks to be headed into a fantasy world! Check out the preview video.
There’s honestly not much information at the moment. The video description explains that it’s going to be a “slapstick comical fantasy” game set to be released as a 3DS downloadable title in Spring of 2014. Given that it’s already Spring of 2014, that only gives them a few months to release the game, and I imagine that if they had any gameplay to show, they’d have shown it in the preview video. The game doesn’t even have a page on the official Kunio-kun website at the moment. This reporter isn’t quite sure what to expect out of this one.
Not much really happens in the video, either. You see the characters transform from their traditional appearances to a medieval fantasy theme, and their names changed to suit. To venture a guess at the exact spellings of some of the fantasy names, Kunio becomes Kooney Valford, Riki becomes Ricky Brague. The antagonist, who you may be familiar with as Slick, goes from Yamada to Ya Marda. It’s a little tricky to translate quite exactly.
With all the huge nerds River City Ransom fans that we have on the staff, however, GameCola is curious to see how this one turns out. We’ll be sure to report the latest update as we hear them!
