After writing my reivew of Dwarf Fortress, the highly acclaimed dwarf fortress simulator, I also recorded some videos of striking the earth, gaining sustenance through plow, advanced labors, and fortress defense. You should check these videos out!
These videos were played on Version 0.34.11. Verison 0.40.x was released in 2014 with periodic releases coming out right now! A lot of new features exist, such as multi z-level tress, castration, and taverns with music and dance—but the core gameplay is still the same.
