Zero Escape 3: Finally in Development?

A mysterious website has appeared, hinting at the release of Zero Escape 3.

Before I discuss the news about Zero Escape 3, here’s something you may have missed: a 12-minute anime based on Virtue’s Last Reward.

Okay, on to the news. Virtue’s Last Reward was released in October 2012. It ended with some pretty heavy sequel fodder, like an unknown character named “?” being told he is the only one who can save the world.

Sadly, the third game in the series was canceled due to poor sales in Japan. Fans cried. People screamed. GameCola staff writer Diana Gray became so despondent that she couldn’t finish her 101010 fanfic.

That all might change, and soon! Recently, Aksys Games (who localized and translated Zero Escape into English) started a mysterious website. Right now, it’s little more than a countdown timer. Here’s a picture:

Countdown

Wait a second! Those numbers look suspiciously similar to the numbers on the box art of 999! Either Aksys knows how to use the same font more than once, or…THEY ARE FINALLY ANNOUNCING GAME 3! Yes! Hooray!

…Yes, “numbers look like numbers” is all the reason we have for believing the third game is being released. Who cares? A third game would be awesome!

Even if this is all a big misunderstanding, we know that the series creator, Kotaro Uchikoshi, is working on a new visual novel. It is a collaboration between Spike Chunsoft and Mages. So fans can still look forward to that game, whenever it gets released.

As of my writing this, the countdown has one month and three weeks left. The timer believes “Friday” is the start of the week, which explains all the weird timeline problems in the Zero Escape games. It also means the timer runs out on the weekend of July 4th. We will learn the truth then.

  1. First of all, this is the OVA with Troy Baker as Sigma. There we go. I think I mentioned that during the credits one time when I was on.

Second of all, wow. I’m psyched. Maybe I’ll actually finish. Sometime. All the staff changes literally ensure that I have to throw out any ending that I plan.
