Some of you may remember the cult classic Nier for PS3. For those that never had the pleasure of playing it, the game was quite good, following a father as he searched for a cure to his daughter’s disease (or a brother, depending on which version of the game it was). The Drakengard spinoff has mostly been forgotten, but now—five years later—Platinum Games has released a trailer for a sequel, which has come as a shock to pretty much everyone. Nobody could have expected this when there was an announcement of a new Nier project back during E3 2015.
Set an undetermined amount of time after the previous game, Nier: Automata will follow the story of YoRHa No. 2 Model B, or 2B for short, as she battles a horde of machines that have invaded a post-apocalyptic Earth from another universe. The story seems pretty out there, but it’s Platinum’s signature combat that’s sure to draw players, with an ample amount of ridiculous acrobatics and flashy swordplay filling this trailer. Fans of Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Rising are sure to find something to love here.
There’s no set release date yet other than hints at 2016. For now we’ll just have to gawk at the trailer below and hope the crazy combat comes sooner, rather than later.
Is it PS4 only? Awwww… It looks cool.
