Number Munchers

Number Munchers

number-munchersDoes anyone remember Number Munchers? It was an educational game from the 1990s, where you directed a frog-like character called “The Number Muncher.” He chewed on more numbers than your average accountant, and he was always being chased by big, stupid monsters called “Troggles.”

Now that I’m older, I can see that the entire game is a metaphor for tax evasion. Run, Number Muncher, run! The Troggles don’t like the numbers you’ve crunched, so they’re after you!

Today, we’ve got a video in which GameCola staff writer Michael Gray plays through 21 levels of Number Munchers, without losing a single life. Enjoy the nostalgia fuel, everyone.

After every three levels, you see a humorous cutscene in which The Number Muncher hurts the Troggles. If it seems like the cutscenes are better than the actual game itself, it’s because they are.
