Gravis has been making their GamePad PC controller for quite some time now. It has not changed very much at all, save for a few upgrades to Keep With the Times.

The GamePad is a basic controller, recognized by almost every computer game. It can be used either as a handheld gamepad controller, or as a joystick in some situations. It has 10 non-directional buttons including Start, Select, and top-of-the-controller fire buttons. It also has standard directional pad with diagonals for moving, onto which you can place a joystick attachment. Because of the amount of buttons it has, it’s possible to configure them to do just about anything you need to do in any given game.

gravisThe controller itself if very easy to hold; it seems to resemble the early SNES controllers. This also puts the buttons in very convenient places. The controller itself connects to your PC’s USB port, and is recognized almost instantly, with no need for a complicated installation process. It works with Mac computers as well. Rumor has it you can also plug the controller into your PS2’s USB port, although I haven’t tried that myself.

The controller is very convenient to use whether you’re playing your favorite first-person shooter, console emulation, or RPG. It works very well, and judging from the abuse mine gets in my laptop bag, it is very, very durable. It definitely makes gaming on the PC come closer and closer to 0wning console gaming.

The Gravis GamePad gets a 9/10.
