WiiWare Review (August 2008)

It’s a little light on content, but overall a decent game. Thematically the whole game is cute and very enjoyable, but without a lot of depth, it’s hard to keep coming back to. The gun noises coming from the Wii-mote get obnoxious pretty fast, but if you like shooter games, you could do a lot worse for your points.

“After being beaten several years in a row in the WCC Awards for best Flash comic by the Strong Bad guys, the urge to trash this game is overwhelming, but I’m bigger than that. It stays true to the comic in that it’s funny as hell. Although, it’s not much of a “game,” more of a linear story with some interactivity to progress. If you don’t like the comic, then this really isn’t for you, but if you do, then this is a great way to support some truly great artists/writers and developers.”

Midnight Pool, Gameloft,  800 points.
2-Players, Pseudo-Sports. b3o5

“Come on, it’s pool. If you’re into pool, and you know who you douchebags are who own their own cues and keep them in a fucking clarinet case, then you’re probably out playing pool and not reading this review. If you’re not into pool, why would you buy this game? It doesn’t offer the charm and movement of Wii Bowling, but the physics are decent and the music and character variety is enjoyable. Still a snooze fest, though.”

helix1Helix, Ghostfire Games,  1000 points.
1-Player, Rhythm. b5o5

“Helix is an excellent rhythm game. Obviously, if you hate rhythm games, European dance music, or having fun, then this isn’t for you, but this game gets high marks for being a metric assload of fun. Like dance Dance Revolution, you can also get a decent workout if you keep at it. If they offer some DLC or a good co-op mode along with some new songs on another release, Ghostfire Games could easily have a hit on their hands.”
