… of the Month: Don’t be “That Guy”

This may be a stretch, but I assume that a large percentage of our readers and writers are into videogames. That being so, I assume that, at one point or another, you’ve all run into gamers that have certain habits that just grind on your nerves whenever you play with them.

New Plan for “… of the Month” of the Month: (don’t be) “That Guy” of the Month

This may be a stretch, but I assume that a large percentage of our readers and writers are into videogames. That being so, I assume that, at one point or another, you’ve all run into gamers that have certain habits that just grind on your nerves whenever you play with them. This is especially likely now that games with online capabilities are more and more the norm, and there are a lot more opportunities to play with people we don’t know (and thus who have the potential to annoy us more).

OK, now for where I am going with this: As we are starting up a “New GameCola” of sorts, I will be introducing a new spin on “…of the Month.” This new series of articles will be known as the “That Guy of the Month” series, in which I will have guest hosts join with me to discuss various annoying gamers we’ve encountered. That’s right, guest hosts. So, if you’ve had occasion to run into an annoying gamer, don’t hesitate to share your story. Anyone and everyone is a potential guest host for this column, so feel free to post any and all ideas you have. Here are a few ideas I have, for starters:

  • The Trophy/Achievements Guy
  • The Headset Guy (or The Headset Kid)
  • The Sore Loser (a.k.a. The Anger Management Guy)
  • The FAQ/Message Board Guy
  • The Graphics Guy

I have a number of other ideas on my (metal) plate (in my head), to be unveiled as we move along with this new “… of the Month” series. If you have any ideas, even if you don’t necessarily want to be a guest host, please go ahead and post them. On the other hand, feel free to put in a request to be a guest host even if you don’t have a new idea to submit (e.g. if you just really feel inspired to be a part of the Trophy Guy discussion).

I’m hoping I’ve provided a sufficient explanation of the general idea of this new series (the official format will be explained via showing it to you in the first episode), but if you don’t get where I’m going with this, feel free to post a comment about that, too. All right, readers/writers, I’m counting on you to really fill the comments box on this one. I’m talking at least 3-4 messages. Ready? Go!
