I hope you’re sitting down, because everyone’s favorite sidescrolling-brawler-with-RPG-elements is getting an officially licensed sequel! You read that right—this isn’t just some fan game, it’s an officially licensed sequel to the game that inspired a generation of gamers.

The GameCola Faithful may recall a news story we ran a while back about a different “River City Ransom 2” in development by the original creators, but there’s a key difference here. That game was actually a follow-up to Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari—the original Japanese incarnation involving Japanese high school students. It was part of the larger Kunio-kun series of games; most of which never made it over here, but had a decent run in Japan. The topic of this news article isn’t Kunio-kun, though—it’s the honest-to-goodness, all-American, ’50s-style, USA-#1 River City Ransom we know and love!

Made in Canada.

But, seriously, this game looks awesome. And, it needs your help! I’m not normally a huge fan of Kickstarter, but this looks like one that would be worth throwing money in the general direction of.

So, if you’re feeling so inclined, head on over to their Kickstarter campaign and show your support by preordering a copy. There’s still a few weeks left! We can do this!
