In the early 2000s, I spent a lot of time online. The Internet was a different place back then, and the indie game scene was only in its infancy. Without centralized sites like Steam or Desura, and without pervasive social media platforms, word spread pretty slowly about any new games coming out of small-time studios. Because of this, while I remember Crimsonland being a huge deal in my favorite IRC channel, I never really heard about it elsewhere.
But, all that is about to change! The game that somehow introduced me to the concept of a twin-stick shooter while being controlled via keyboard is making a comeback!
You kids may remember Crimsonland as “wait a second, isn’t that just MAED, but with better graphics and without the song?”, and the answer is “yes”. “Yes, MAED is a cheap knockoff of a free game that came out several years earlier.”
But now, Crimsonland is being remade, and it’s coming to Steam and PlayStation 4! With any luck, it will be able to achieve the glory it rightfully deserved from the start. What a time to be alive.
If you’re interested in more information, you can check out their website. There isn’t much information now, but the news only came out recently. I’m looking forward to it!
It is a little odd that they say the game came out in 2003. I still have the files I got on IRC, and they’re timestamped as being July 2002. Oh, well. The game is coming back!
