Featured Game Music: Oh, Nathaniel…

What happens when you take the music from Mega Man X and play it through Mega Man 7?

I was sure I had posted a new soundtrack or game music you should definitely check out between my last one and the one I’m posting now, but rather than repeat what I thought I posted, here’s some Nathaniel Hoover bait and something the general gaming public should listen to anyway:

This dude actually went to the trouble to take all the Mega Man X MIDIs and run them through Mega Man 7 samples. Some are better than others, but a kick-ass package all the same.

  1. Oh man. I love Zero’s theme in this format. This helps reinforce my contention that MM7 has a great soundtrack; it’s the instrument set that some people don’t like, and they don’t even realize it. Some of these X tunes sound borderline terrible with this sound font, and some I daresay are almost better, but the composition is still superb either way.

    1. Yeah, you’re mostly right. MM7’s instruments are really spotty at times, and it even rivals X2 and (allegedly) X3 for really dodgy instrument choices. Even so, the game has some very great themes (the castle themes come to mind), and its songs have a nice helping of variety. As a whole, it’s a run-of-the-mill Mega Man soundtrack (which is to say top-notch, don’t take it the wrong way).

Now if Mega Man and Bass’s soundtrack got a fair bit of attention…
