Dear Readers,
If you’re one of the non-spambots who’s posted on our forums, you maybe possibly remember the Best Staff Member EVER tournament we ran last year. If you’re not, then the so basically is this: We ran a tournament last year to figure out who, among the millions (and The Rock means MILLIONS!!!!!) of writers we’ve had, was the absolute best. Every few days our readers would vote on which of two staff members (past or present) had the bigger impact on GameCola, and whichever member won moved on to the next round. Matt Gardner ended up winning the whole thing with a stunning upset over Allec Johnson, whom at least three of the voters actually remembered.
(And, for the record, it is absolutely essential that I keep doing all this stuff that brings up old writers and old articles. I’m proud that we’ve been around for so long and have been putting out quality newsletters for…well, at least half as long, and I like doing what I can to show that off.)
No one really understood why we ran the tournament last year, and no one seems to understand it now; but it looked like everyone had a lot of fun (especially those who cheated to see their man advance), so I figured we’d have another go. To see if Matt’s still thought of as the greatest one year later, and to include all those newer staff members who didn’t get to be a part last year. However, this time we’re running the tournament where people might actually see it: on the front page of GameCola. Every day until the tournament is over, I’ll be posting a new matchup, so keep checking back with us.
That’s the big GameCola news for this month. On a more personal note, the real big news is this:
My newsletter. I can invite congratulations if I want.
I’ll be starting my new job as a copy editor—where I’ll be doing almost exactly what I do here with GameCola, except that I’ll be paid for it—in a few days. One of the reasons I was able to land this job was through my experience with GC, so keep that in mind next time we’re looking for new writers.
That’s just about all I’ve got, though there is one more thing: this month marks Zack’s last issue, and I’d just like to send a quick thanks out to him, as he’s been a real cornerstone for GameCola over the past two-and-a-half years. Check out his swansong in this very issue, Cheat Codes for Getting Out of Your Damn House, and be sure to let him know how much we’ve appreciated all he’s done.
Love,
