Alan Wake: Night Springs will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade as a downloadable title. Previously speculation and rumor, it has now indeed been confirmed by a tweet from Major Nelson. Larry confirmed the existence of Sonic CD on his blog back in August, so I trust him when it comes to these things.
We can confirm that this new “Alan Wake” game will be a fully standalone experience and released on Xbox LIVE (source)
Fully-standalone means that the game will not be downloadable content, and will most likely not require prerequisite knowledge of the first installment. Of course, playing Alan Wake may help you appreciate the minor details, because Remedy sure as hell loves them some hidden messages and secret meanings.
The first chance to see footage of the upcoming Night Springs will be during the Spike TV awards on December 10th. Until then, this game remains a tight-lipped secret.
It is (probably) safe to assume the game will have some kind of connection with the Night Springs television show from the Alan Wake universe, which is partially based off of Twin Peaks.
We’ve had some really good Twin Peaks-inspired games before. In my unprofessional and biased opinion: If Sam Lake’s behind this, it will be nothing short of spectacular.
