Continuing to cut a path of lucrative destruction through the Temple of Fiends, Michael “PANC the Fighter” Ridgaway, Michael “ALPH the Red Mage” Gray, Joseph “JOEV the White Mage” Martin, and Anna “LITA the Black Mage” Bryniarski finally run out of treasure rooms to explore, leaving them no recourse but to resume looking for the princess they vaguely remember being asked to rescue. Additionally, Nathaniel “the GM” Hoover is pleased to be able to initiate one of the contingency plans he was kinda hoping he’d get to use.
Here’s what’s in store (or in temple, technically) for you in this installment:
- A hat! It’s not for you, though.
- The sobering truth that not every monster will care as much about guarding your treasure as you do
- Tactical cowardice
- The sobering truth that not everyone in the party has played Final Fantasy all the way to the end
- Exposition! Turns out this game had a plot all along.
- Resting up for the final boss battle, during the final boss battle
The adventure continues here!
Alright, so I really love these kinds of modified RPG rules you have set up for this podcast, and I would really like to start a game of my own. Would there be any way I could get my hands on these Final Fantasy RPGCast rules?
Absolutely! I’ve been thinking about writing up a behind-the-scenes post discussing GMing and the game mechanics, once the last part is posted tomorrow. However, feel free to e-mail me and I’ll be happy to send over my Word document and spreadsheet with all the details: nhoover [at] gamecola [dot] net
Thanks a bunch! I can’t wait to hear that behind-the-scenes podcast, and to finally have fun with my friends playing Final Fantasy DnD, by which I mean having them defeat Garland, only to have the princess say, “Thank you Light Warriors, but your pancakes are in another castle!”
I FINALLY found your e-mail request, but in case you (or anyone else with a similar interest) see my comment here first, there’s a blog post here on GameCola with all the details:

I’ve got to give Mike Ridgaway credit for being so excited about plot advancement that he forgot to command the warmech to give him pancakes.
I love how PANC is content with “be my best friend” being the second command.
