You’ve seen the awards, now listen to the podcast! It only happens once a year, so don’t miss out! Join Alex Jedraszczak, Anna Bryniarski, Diana Gray, Michael Gray, and not one—but TWO—very special guest stars as they talk about the games that won in the 2014 GameCola Videogame Awards! And, that’s not all. They also talk about such amazing topics as:

  • Does anyone actually use the Xbox One to watch TV on their TV?
  • Are portable versions of games still universally considered terrible?
  • Can Amiibos be trained to teabag opponents in Super Smash Bros.?
  • Can people viewing GameCola on their PlayStation or 3DS listen to the podcast?
  • Alien Isolation should have been a dating sim.
  • Do people still make games with motion controls?!
  • The staff convinces Paul to buy Tomodachi Life.
  • The games the staff is excited about for 2015!
  • Pizzarian is coming to Steam—February 3rd!
  • Our special guest takes it away!

We talk about all those things on top of discussing the awards! What a podcast! If you think you can handle all that, hurry up and give it a listen below!

  1. Okay, I was not expecting Michael’s bit after the outro, that made me chuckle.

I didn’t get to use my “Do you wanna do a podcast” song, but that’s a different issue.

  2. To be fair, Smash 3DS local multiplayer is actually really fun and without too much hangup. I suppose that’s one of the benefits of being on a college campus with a few 3ds’s in our hall, but that’s why I included it in my nominations.

Also I think you guys might have convinced me to get Tomodachi Life too.

    1. THE TOMODACHI DISEASE SPREADS. It is slowly infecting all of us. We may soon have to put up a quarantine if it goes any further.

But yes, it’s silly, zany fun, highly recommended.

  3. Amiibo are figurines – you can use them for lots of Wii U (and potentially New 3DS) games, but no one really cares about them outside of Smash Bros. There are two major selling points for them: The first is that they are figurines, and collectors LOVE figurines. The second is that as an Amiibo fights, it LEARNS how to become better. By the time you’ve trained your Amiibo to the level cap of 50 (which, by the way, won’t take any longer than an hour) it’s practically as good as you. Apparently, Amiibo psychology is actually rather deep – you can teach it to taunt after every kill or to only use one attack.

Additionally, you can, in a way teach your Amiibo to teabag opponents. Although opponents are launched 100mph off-screen on a kill, most members of the competitive Smash Bros community get very upset if you press down repeatedly – it’s like teabagging, but your opponent isn’t right there. (because they’re dead)

You can’t listen to the GameCola podcast on the DSi, Wii, or 3DS (Not sure about Wii U). However, the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U DO have YouTube apps – given, it doesn’t seem the podcast is put on YouTube anymore…

Regarding Alien Dating Sims, I think you guys should have a podcast or video playing them. Or the butt dating sim – there are some butts with great personalities out there.

Regarding the names sent in for votes for Smash – the box art says “Super Smash Bros.” (dot after the “bros” and all). I guess that makes it technically more correct than “Super Smash Brothers”. Also, most people who want to refer to both editions of the game say “Smash 4” or “Sm4sh” (not sure how that second one is pronounced).

PLEASE release the QR codes for the GameCola staff member Miis!

    1. OK, I’ve been trying to figure out for weeks what an Amiibo is. Thank you.

As it so happens, we just started a project yesterday to get all outstanding podcasts uploaded to YouTube! #75 is up, and we’ll be releasing the rest on a weekly (or bi-weekly, if I get impatient) basis until we’re up to speed again. We’re also looking at condensing the older podcasts into single-part videos rather than the fifteen-or-whatever parts they’re in now. Progress!

If I had a too-many-dimensions-for-me-to-handle-DS, I would totally share my QR code. I’ve got a Wii U, but I don’t think there’s a way to distribute my Mii. Of course, I live under a rock.
