This Day in GameCola History: October 9th

Be glad that we don't have to live through October 9th anymore.

Time is a mysterious thing. It comes and goes as it pleases, and we are merely at its whim. In a grand example of this, today we celebrate a day that only lasted for four years, not even stretching back to when time began in late 2008. That day is October 9th. Need proof of its existence? Look no further than the examples below.

October 9th, 2015—Donkey Kong Land III (GB)

Starting off the strangeness of this day, we have this review written not by a GameCola staff member, but by Superfan Meowskivich, who contributed more reviews in a one-month span of time than anyone actually on the staff did the entire year (except for Robyn).

October 9th, 2014—Fabricated News: There will be a Chip ‘n Dale MMORPG

The oddities continue with this article posted in 2014, of a video from 2009, which is a copy of a Flash animation from 2001—before the beginning of time. And here we are in 2017, talking about it again. Be sure to watch the video before it’s lost in the sands of time and forgotten for all eternity.

October 9th, 2013—DuckTales: Scrooge’s Loot (iOS)

Some of you may forget that there was a time before the Great DuckTales Revival—before the new DuckTales cartoon, and even before DuckTales Remastered. There was a time when DuckTales was still just a cartoon (and related media) from the late ’80s and early ’90s. But things started to change in 2013, and it started with a game for iOS, reviewed here by Michael Gray.

October 9th, 2012—7th Guest Dev Offers TLC to iOS

While it didn’t exactly launch the rebirth of a multimedia franchise like the example above, we continue to see the effects of October 9th on the current timeline. Yet again, this time a year earlier, we see a developer from the ’90s release a game on iOS.

October 9th, 2012—Midnight Rescue!

Continuing with the theme of “children’s media from the ’90s”, Michael Gray is here with a video about Midnight Rescue, the educational title that even true ’90s kids won’t remember. We’re glad that the timeline loops back on itself and ends in 2012. It’s truly frightening to imagine what October 9th might have been like if it had existed in years prior.
