GameCola hasn’t exactly been kind to what can now accurately be called the Epic Mickey franchise; the last time we reported on it, we went with the telling headline “Epic Mickey Doesn’t Look Horrible,” after which we never spoke of it again until months after its release, when Travis Combs referred to it as “a mentally challenged videogame baby.”
So what’s changed between “it looks kinda fun, right?” and now? Eight words:
The sequel is going to be a musical.
New party members include Joey, Big Red, CJ, Justin, and Chuckles.
Per videogames Super Friends group The Verge, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of 2 (yes that is really its name!) will be a co-op musical adventure starring Mickey Mouse and the Edgeworth to his Phoenix, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. It’ll feature music by the composer and lyricist who wrote the music for Dorothy of Oz, and it’s reportedly going to have a camera that actually works this time.
Is this the first “videogame musical” we’ve had since Rhapsody? It is, right? Epic Mickey is on my radar once again, a phrase I never thought I’d use, mostly because I was pretty sure everyone who made the first game got fired.
