Game Boy Original Action RPG of the Month: Final Fantasy Adventure
Final Fantasy Adventure is more like The Legend of Zelda that it is Final Fantasy, but it is a good game nonetheless. You play as a boy named whatever you want (as long as you name it something 4 letters long or shorter) and you begin your quest as a prisoner of the evil Empire. As your journey progresses you meet up with various characters that join you at different points of the game, including a girl who you also get to name (incase the whole naming thing didn’t tip you off, she’s the other main character, although you don’t get to control her). The game plays like Zelda, where you press a button to swing your sword and hit enemies, rather than going into battle, but it uses Final Fantasy type spells, such as fire, ice, cure, etc. It’s extraordinarily easy to figure out the controls, seeing as there are only 4 buttons to use, and the graphics are everything you’d expect from a GBO game. If you are a die-hard strict RPGer, and only like random encounters, this game probably isn’t for you, but if you are a fan of Link’s Awakening or A Link to the Past you should get your hands on Final Fantasy Adventure.
