… of the Month: PAIN Revisited

Finally, a new level is going to come out for PAIN! It’s not out yet, to my knowledge…but sometime! Woo! More on that TK! This round we’re gonna start off with a question for you dudes to post the answer to: Why does TK mean “to come”? I have no idea, but it does. If you can explain it to me, please do so!

The Good Kind of PAIN of the Month: PAIN Revisited

Finally, a new level is going to come out for PAIN! It’s not out yet, to my knowledge…but sometime! Woo! More on that TK! This round we’re gonna start off with a question for you dudes to post the answer to: Why does TK mean “to come”? I have no idea, but it does. If you can explain it to me, please do so!

On a completely unrelated note, I feel I’ve been stepping up my cultured-ness lately! I’ve recently finally purchased a translation of the Nibelungenlied, AND completed my collection of Ai Otsuka’s discography. You don’t get much more cultured than that, my friend.

Time for some PAIN! That is what this article is about, isn’t it? Anyway, PAIN released a new character relatively recently, bringing the total to something like 400 characters that are purchasable online, while all I’ve really been wanting is new stages. 400 because I don’t care about new characters, not 400 because of reality. Right.

painGOOD NEWS! While we (I) are waiting for completely new stages, they’ve added some new features. You can now unlock the ability to play from different locations in the same city you’ve been playing in. Basically, they let you shoot toward different stuff, and you don’t just have to face the Hotel CoralEssex every time you launch. Fun stuff, but there’s way less stuff to hit in other directions…not too thrilling, but somewhat thrilling nonetheless. It is very fun to fall through many levels of flimsy wooden flooring, and you can make the giant bowling ball now fall through a Mouse Trap-esque girder path. It’s not as cool or vague as it sounds, but it’s there and not bad!

Enough about new angles! A second cool feature they FINALLY added is the ability for players to choose their own characters. Before, everyone had to slingshot the same dillweed. NO MORE! Now each player can pick whoever they want to fling. Here’s a third thing that is cool: Jukebox. You can now play your own music while playing anything in PAIN. Very cool, since before there was no music. Only the theme song, and then ambient noises. Side note: they put the mp3 for the PAIN theme song up on the PSN store as a free download. Not bad! Not like having to pay 15 bucks to get the original Soul Calibur soundtrack for Soul Calibur IV. Weeeeak.

In sum, the real awesomeness of new levels in PAIN is not upon us yet, but they ARE giving us nice things to tide us over. Did I mention it’s all free? EVERYTHING for this game so far, except the new characters, that has been updated/released/put on the PSN store has been free. Pretty good deal for a game that was only 10 bucks to begin with. Did I mention, also, that this is still one of the funnest games out there right now? It’s pretty much the only thing Paul and I play when we are in the same state. If you know, POST!
