I once reviewed Giana Sisters DS for this very website. That was back when I wasn’t a very good writer. Since then, studio Spellbound was shut down, and some of the members formed a new studio, Black Forest Games. They are finishing work on a new Giana Sisters game, currently titled Project Giana. They are running out of funds and haven’t been able to get hold of a publisher, so they’ve taken to Kickstarter to get the last few drips of moo-lah so they can finish the project.
So what is it? Project Giana is a side-scrolling platformer rendered in luscious 3D graphics. It will be released for PC, and later on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. It takes the traditional Giana Sisters formula and gives it a twist—the twist mechanic where Giana can switch between two dream worlds at will.
Chris Hülsbeck is back on board for the soundtrack (with assistance from Machinae Supremacy) so you know the soundtrack is going to rock. If you back $10, you can get a DRM-free copy of the game for PC. Back $25 and you’ll get a digital copy of the soundtrack along with a DRM-free copy of the game and early access to the first six levels of the game.
If they reach $150,000, they can finish the game. If they reach $250,000, they can make it better. If they can get $300,000 then they’ll release it on Ouya, too. I have no doubt they’ll reach $150,000 before the listing is over. The video on the listing page does a better job of explaining than I ever could, so head there and see for yourself.
I read the progression of your first paragraph, and was secretly hoping it would go something like, “I once reviewed Giana Sisters DS for this very website. That was back when I wasn’t a very good writer. Since then, studio Spellbound was shut down, and some of the members formed a new studio, Black Forest Games…*and it’s all my fault.*”
Hahahaha, damn, I missed a good ‘un there.
