Surprisingly-Not-Fabricated News: Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn

At long last, the sequel that noone's been waiting for!

For those of you who missed it, this is NOT a “Fabricated News” article. This is entirely real news.

Shaq-Fu is back. Or, returns. I mean, is reborn.

I don’t know. Whatever it is, Shaquille O’Neal has decided to mark the 20-year anniversary of Shaq-Fu‘s release with a brand-new, next-gen sequel to the game that GameCola called “an AWESOME game“. Just, you know, ignore the next sentence in that review. Or, the entire rest of the review. At least we put it on our Top 5 Games of 1994! Oh—it’s not on our Top 5 Game of 1994? I guess I’m thinking of NBA Jam, the other vaguely-basketball-related, unintentionally-funny SNES game of 1994.

Either way, Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn is in the works right now! It’s on Kickstarter Indiegogo as we speak! Maybe he was inspired by the success of fellow 1994-hit-game-maker Tim Schafer, or maybe he’s just struggling to still be relevant twenty years into his career. Whatever his reasoning, part of me hopes that this game is completed. With some interest generated in non-sports-game, vaguely-basketball-related videogames, maybe they’ll finally finish Chapter 2 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa.

  1. Not sure if I should run away screaming or fall on the ground laughing. If this game sees the light of day, I will be torn.

    1. I just watched the video again, and I was thinking about the line at the end… “This time, we won’t ‘Fu’ it up”. Is that supposed to admit that the original game is bad? Like, it’s a pun on “Shaq-Fu”. But, saying “this time” suggests that there was a time that they did.

      1. They’re probably well aware how terrible the first game was and want to try to win people over by saying “Hey, we know the last game was downright devastating, but we’re going to make sure it doesn’t happen again”. Being a very notorious video game even to people who haven’t played it, it might be a rather effective marketing strategy.
