This Day in GameCola History: April 9th

Who would have known that such a random date held so much importance!

With content involving Tags , , , , ,

For reasons that are clearly apparent to all of us, as all true GameCola fans know, April 9th is a very important date in GameCola history. For that reason, today is the day that we introduce our latest column: “This Day in GameCola History”! Today, we’ll see all the amazing offerings GameCola has published on April 9th.

As GameCola was originally a bi-monthly email newsletter, and then a monthly email newsletter, and then a monthly internet website, it should be noted that April 9th only became important after we abandoned the monthly format and transitioned into our current format as an Actual Internet Website.

That said, I won’t keep you waiting any longer. Below, you will find all that GameCola has so graciously brought before you on April 9th!

Rhythm-Heaven-BoxApril 9th, 2014—Rhythm Heaven (DS)

On this day last year, eternal GameCola superfan No Lynch submitted this fine review of Rhythm Heaven for the Nintendo DS. A pivotal moment in GameCola history, it was the first fan submission in over a year. Read all about one of the best games for the DS and one of the greatest music games in this review!

If you’re a GameCola fan with big dreams and a vague interest in videogames, why not submit your own fan review (or commentary, or comic, or video…)? Just send an email to Jeddy and let us know what you’ve got in mind!

April 9th, 2013—Too Old For This S@$t: Professional Reviews

While we don’t know exactly what a “sast” is, we do know that this article marked one of the last full articles written by long-time GameCola veteran Michael Ridgaway, as well as the last entry in the “Too Old For This S@$t” column. We still see M-Ridge around on RPGCasts and year-end awards, but this was one of the last all-Ridgaway articles we’ve seen here on the site.

April 9th, 2012—… Of The Month: Apps?

The penultimate posting of the “… Of The Month” column, this Matt Gardner classic questions the rise in popularity of mobile games. While the Handheld vs. Mobile debate rages on to this day, we can look back at this post and recall just how far we’ve come.

zelda nameApril 9th, 2011—A Familiar Name

Here at GameCola, what binds us together is our moderate interest in videogames. On April 9th in 2011, veteran staff member Michael Gray exemplifies this key trait by not realizing that the main character of The Legend of Zelda is not, in fact, named “Zelda”. Truly a classic moment in the history of gaming and GameCola alike!

April 9th, 2010—Love and Hate: Brütal Legend

Another Michael Ridgaway classic, this time with a simple commentary on the Double Fine game Brütal Legend. We can all relate to the sentiment—a game we love, but so desperately want to hate. How do we sort out our emotions? We can all suffer alongside Michael as he tells the tale of his own experience.

April 9th, 2014—Animaniacs (GB)—Part 1: A Cursory Introduction

GameCola’s history spans far and wide, and we haven’t forgotten about our YouTube channel! We’ll finish with our only April 9th video release. Enjoy the rest of your own April 9th as you watch our playthrough of the Game Boy classic Animaniacs.

  1. Wow, it’s been a year now since I submitted that review? I’m not sure whether it seem like longer or like only last month…

I’m pretty sure it’s the former.

Also, I’ve been playing Rhythm Heaven Fever recently- AND I LOVE IT. I might even end up writing a review of it for when I eventually join GameCola (assuming that ever happens). I don’t know.

  2. Oh, so we’re trying this one again, eh? I’m game. The Archive Dive lasted three installments, and This Week in ‘Cola lasted five. See if you can beat our high score, Jeddy!
