2012: the year of the beginning of the resurgence of the popularity of the FMV adventure game genre. Games like 2 Minute Mysteries and Alternate Endings gained in popularity on iOS. Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective—at one point a pack-in for the Sega CD—was re-released for a new generation of young sleuths. Microsoft even went so far as to announce that the Xbox 720 would be fully FMV-based. (Curiously, no other sites have followed up on this story yet.)
In today’s edition of As the FMV Game Spins, we have: Tender Loving Care, a 1999 “interactive movie” starring Oscar nominee John Hurt, about two parents suffering the loss of a child, which purports to measure the player’s own psyche based on decisions they make in the game. It’s out now for $14—which might seem like a whopping amount, especially considering that the developer’s own The 7th Guest is being sold on iOS for five bucks—but perhaps this new trailer will change your miiiiiiind (with psychology):
Yay! I want HD rereleases of ALL FMV games.
Christian, you might not have long to wait. I am told that the Sherlock Holmes FMV trilogy has joined the party. I am totally purchasing them right now.
