And so ends the sad story of one of the most disappointing games from the past decade. Joystiq reports that Turtles in Time: Re-shelled—the remake of the classic SNES game that added terrible graphics and removed great music and levels—will be delisted from the PlayStation Network as of June 30. (Other sites are reporting that it’ll be leaving XBLA that day, too.) After next Thursday, you won’t be able to buy this game anymore, though you’ll still be able to re-download Re-shelled if you’d already purchased it.

This, of course, begs the question: why? As the Joystiq article notes, the game’s license runs out on June 30. So why aren’t they trying to renew it, then? Personally, I’m kinda holding out hope that they’re trying to make room for a straight-up port of the original Turtles in Time, but my predictions have been wrong before.

  1. This version isn’t all that bad, it’s just by comparison to the ridiculously almost flawless SNES version y’know? I picked it up when it was a half-price Deal of the Week, so that probably colored my judgement.

  2. I bought and downloaded it, but with my busy schedule, I haven’t had time to test it out yet. I’m also sitting on Braid and Dezaemon Plus… gotta get some more free time!

  3. You can continue sitting on Braid, flatten it with your arse, and throw it out like a discarded nappy. That’s just my opinion though, many people enjoy it.

  4. Loved the original version of this game, so I suppose there’s some sort of justice in it’s big-time remake falling flat on its face.

  5. Wow. How much does relicensing cost? I guess all game companies do this after a few years of their game not selling new copies anymore, but yikes.

I’ve only played the demo, but it really stunk. I agree, simply give me the SNES version with online play, 4 player local/co-op mix like Little Big Planet, and you’ll do just fine.
