… of the Month: People Porting Games Instead of Making New Ones
Columns by Matt Gardner on
It seems someone got the hint, whether it be from tons of people using their PSPs to play old games on emulators and refusing to upgrade their PSPs in order to continue doing so, people continuing to buy old games ported to PSP and other systems (such as Breath of Fire 3 for PSP, which I just purchased recently instead of buying a real new game), or just a lucky guess.

… of the Month: Kingdom Hearts II

I can understand why they would want to revisit old worlds from the original game...but did they really need to make you repeat nearly the exact same thing you did in those worlds?

… of the Month: Sequels
Columns by Matt Gardner on
I've recently been playing Untold Legends: The Warrior's Code and Drakengard 2, and something has come to my attention: Making sequels better than the original is an insanely awesome idea.

… of the Month: n00b
Columns by Matt Gardner on
Firstly, I should say that I am enrolled in the school of thought where I am right and you are wrong if you don't happen to agree with me. With that out of the way, I'll give you all the real definition of the term n00b. While the origin of this word is easy enough to figure out, coming from the word newbie, meaning someone who is new to something, in this case videogames, more specifically MMORPGs, where I mainly see it used,,,,,,,,,,;;; the meaning has changed. Now, it can be used to refer to anyone who does stupid and/or annoying things that suggest that they don't know a damned thing about the game they are playing. It doesn't matter how long a person plays a game, if they still do stupid, annoying things that show their complete lack of understanding of some aspect of a game, they are a n00b. This allows for people with a good head on their shoulders and a decent experience level with MMORPGs to jump into one, play for a few hours, and not be considered a n00b.

… of the Month: Human-Os
Columns by Matt Gardner on
I wonder to myself, as I play Digital Devil Saga and devour my enemies, does anyone ever go out and eat someone because they see it in videogames? I'm pretty sure if that had happened I would have heard of it, as every negative incident that can be linked to videogames in any conceivable way is made a spectacle of, it seems. Someone shoots someone, someone played a game with shooting in it, the shooting must have been caused by the game.

… of the Month: GBA Ports
Columns by Matt Gardner on
Instead of just making sub-par RPGs, why not just port everything from SNES?

… of the Month: Creatures!
Columns by Elizabeth Medina-Gray on
I don't know how many of you have played, let alone heard of, this game. Well, technically there were three PC games (and more, if you count the children's versions, and maybe a Game Boy version?), but I'm talking about the original PC one here.

… of the Month: Susan and Die Anstalt
Columns by Matt Gardner on
Last month I did something that I often do in my writing, only this time it backfired and nearly destroyed my career. This thing being issuing some sort of challenge or asking for some kind of feedback that I have no doubt no one will dare to take up, respond to, or even read. Well, fellows, this month Satan popped up and pelted me right in the face with a snowball fresh from hell. One with a decently sized pebble in it, the bastard. Someone, whether purposefully or not, actually rose to the challenge!

… of the Month: World of Warcraft
Columns by Matt Gardner on
Now, usually I don't ever spend any time thinking of a topic for of the Month until a few minutes before the deadline, as I'm sure many of you have become aware of over the past month (assuming you read this). This time, however, I think I have a reason for procrastinating that isn't "I was just sitting on my ass staring at the ceiling." That's right, it's "I was just sitting on my ass staring at the computer screen," thanks to the MMORPG known as World of Warcraft.
