Normally I keep the fighting game talk here to a minimum, having reviewed only a few of them for the ‘Cola. But today’s news is mind-blowing: Team Ninja has finally stopped making the DoA ladies so well-endowed.

Dead or Alive has become famous over the years for its gratuitous use of skimpy clothing and breast jiggling. DoA5 will be an entirely different affair, at least according to this paraphrased quote from Game Guys:

Not content with being eye candy, the female fighters will prove that they possess even more character in the game, with a new look and feel only befit for a new generation of intense DoA combat.

What does that mean? The female characters will have a grittier and more realistic style to better collate with a darker and more atmospheric fighting game.

fullFully clothed? Maybe now it will get a release in Sweden!

Dead or Alive 5 is shaping up to be the most realistic title in the series. It will be published by Tecmo Koei in 2012, and it will feature big gameplay changes that reward skilled players. Fighting arenas will supposedly change around the characters, keeping the fights both exciting and “fresh.”

The latest screenshots reveal that Ayane and Hitomi will be playable in the game, raising the current total of known fighters to four. (Ryu Hayabusa and Hayate were revealed at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.)

  1. I doubt that DOA will be DOA because of this change. If people want mammoth mammaries, there are plenty of websites that can satisfy that need. Maybe they’ll even pay attention to the GAME part of the series.

  2. I really hope this change will lead the way to a re-DOA-naissance for the series. Nothing really needs to change – the fighting just needs to be fine tuned once again, throw in these stage features and we’ll see. Maybe even focus on the story like they did with Dead or Alive Dimensions. I want a gritty, neo-DOAtec world with a darker storyline.

  3. @Matt Jonas: I agree. There’s something going on these days, Hitman and Tomb Raider franchises are also having a makeover for next year’s release. Are we really going on into a new era?
